  1. 16. Techniques for the increased utilization of dose response variability in proton therapy

    Författare :Erik Almhagen; Anders Ahnesjö; Alexandru Dasu; Nina Tilly; Oliver Jäkel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RBE; Radiobiology; Proton Therapy; Dose Painting; Head and Neck Cancer; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Particle therapy is a form of radiation therapy in which protons and heavier ions are used, as opposed to photons in conventional radiation therapy. The biological effectiveness of particles compared to photons is often quantified as relative biological effectiveness (RBE). LÄS MER

  2. 17. The microdosimetric variance-covariance method used for beam quality characterization in radiation protection and radiation therapy

    Författare :Jan Erik Lillhök; Lennart Lindborg; Bernd Grosswendt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ionizing radiation; radiation quality; radiation protection; radiation therapy; microdosimetry; nanodosimetry; variance-covariance method; Radiological physics; Radiofysik; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Radiation quality is described by the RBE (relative biological effectiveness) that varies with the ionizing ability of the radiation. Microdosimetric quantities describe distributions of energy imparted to small volumes and can be related to RBE. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Modeling of dose and sensitivity heterogeneities in radiation therapy

    Författare :Kristin Wiklund; Bengt K. Lind; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Marco Zaider; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Monte Carlo simulations; Tumor control probability; Modeling; Beam characterization; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The increased interest in the use of light ion therapy is due to the high dose conformity to the target and the dense energy deposition along the tracks resulting in increased relative biological effectiveness compared to conventional radiation therapy. In spite of the good clinical experience, fundamental research on the characteristics of the ion beams is still needed in order to be able to fully explore their use. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Pharmacoepidemiological studies of rheumatoid arthritis : methodological considerations and applications

    Författare :Andrei Barbulescu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Study I – Biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and the risk of gastrointestinal perforations: Study I was motivated by previous signals of an increased risk of lower gastro-intestinal perforations among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with tocilizumab. The primary aim of study I was to compare the incidence of lower gastro-intestinal perforations between RA patients initiating the biological DMARDs tocilizumab, abatacept, rituximab and tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi). 5. 20. Radiobiological effects of alpha-particles from Astatine-211: From DNA damage to cell death

    Författare :Kristina Claesson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT In recent years, the use of high linear energy transfer (LET) radiation for radiotherapeutic applications has gained increased interest. Astatine-211 (211At) is an -particle emitting radionuclide, promising for targeted radioimmunotherapy of isolated tumor cells and microscopic clusters. LÄS MER
