1. Early domestication? : Phenotypic alterations of Red Junglefowl selected for divergent fear of humans
Sammanfattning : Domestication is the process through which animals adapt to conditions provided by humans. The domesticated phenotype differs from wild ancestors in a number of traits relating to physiology, morphology and behaviour. LÄS MER
2. Stress in chickens : Effects of domestication and early experience on behaviour and welfare
Sammanfattning : The domestication is the process where animals have adapted to human conditions. A prerequisite for domestication is tame behaviour towards humans and subsequently, selection for other desirable traits took place which led to changes in several behavioural and physiological parameters. 3. Magnetic orientation in migratory birds
Sammanfattning : My thesis focuses on magnetic orientation in migratory birds, i.e. how they can perceive information from the Earth’s magnetic field and use it for orientation. LÄS MER
4. Environmental Considerations in the Zero-waste Valorisation of Bauxite Residue : A Life Cycle Perspective
Sammanfattning : Bauxite residue, also known as red mud, is produced in large quantities as a result of alumina refining (the first stage in aluminium production), and is one of the world’s most abundant and important industrial wastes. As demand for aluminium continues to increase and space to store this residue diminishes, the potential to utilise bauxite residue as a secondary resource is increasingly being considered by the alumina industry. 5. The Membrane-Spanning Domain of Complex I Investigated with Fusion Protein Techniques
Sammanfattning : NADH:quinone oxidoreductase, or complex I, is a large, complex and poorly understood bioenergetic enzyme in the respiratory chain of living organisms. The enzyme has a conserved core structure, comprising fourteen protein subunits: Seven subunits protrude from the membrane and contain a flavin prosthetic group and eight iron-sulfur clusters that guide electrons from the oxidation of NADH towards the quinone binding site(s).
