1. Inequality, Health, and Smoking
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five self-contained, yet related, research papers, which all contribute to the economic literature on socioeconomic differences in health and health related behavior. The first two papers provide a compass in the discussion of how to measure health inequality and, more specifically, how to adjust measures and concepts when moving from an unbounded income variable to a bounded (or binary) health variable. 2. Breast tomosynthesis – new perspectives on breast cancer screening
Sammanfattning : Abstract: Mammography is currently the established method in breast cancer screening, although the sensitivity is known be affected by overlapping tissue concealing tumours. Breast tomosynthesis takes advantage of multiple exposures at different angles reducing the negative effect of obscuring tissue. LÄS MER
3. Approximation of Infinitely Divisible Random Variables with Application to the Simulation of Stochastic Processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers A, B, C and D. Paper A and B treats the simulation of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The research presented therein was triggered by the fact that there were not any efficient implementations of the higher order methods for simulating SDEs. LÄS MER
4. Automatic Detection of Grammar Errors in Primary School Children's Texts. A Finite State Approach
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the analysis of grammar errors in Swedish texts written by primary school children and the development of a finite state system for finding such errors. Grammar errors are more frequent for this group of writers than for adults and the distribution of the error types is different in children's texts. LÄS MER
5. On the optimal stopping time of learning
Sammanfattning : The goal of this thesis is to study the economics of computational learning. Attention is also paid to applications of computational learning models, especially Valiant's so-called `probably approximately correctly' (PAC) learning model, in econometric situations. LÄS MER
