  1. 21. Studies on the efficacy of potent anti-HIV-1 therapy on virological and immunological factors

    Författare :Soo Aleman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to assess to which extent treated human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1) infected patients with a seemingly controlled, defined as undetectable plasma HIV-1 RNA levels (< 50 copies/ml), or low-grade viral replication, exhibited pattems in virological and immunological factors which could suggest a continuation of the disease process. We have therefore analysed the kinetics of HIV-1 DNA levels (Papers I and II), the viral evolution (Paper II), the changes in Beta-chemokine levels (Paper 111) and sCD27 levels (Paper IV), and the appearance of drug resistance associated mutations (Paper V) in such patients. 2. 22. Conserved structure-function relationships in the mediator complex

    Författare :Tomas Linder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Transcription; Mediator; yeast;

    Sammanfattning : The Mediator complex is an essential multiprotein coregulator of RNA polymerase II (pol II)- dependent transcription in fungi and metazoans. Mediator interacts directly with both pol II and sequence-specific transcriptional regulators and thus acting as a bridge between the two. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Regulation of gene expression in fruit flies : how does it start, and will it be remembered?

    Författare :Aman Zare; Per Stenberg; Yuri B. Schwartz; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Guillaume Filion; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; epigenetics; transcription; gene regulation; transcription maintenance; CBP; polymerase pausing; Polycomb group proteins; transgenerational inheritance of transcriptional response; gut microbiome; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most distinctive features of eukaryotic chromosomes is the bundling of DNA together with functionally associated RNA and proteins in chromatin. This allows huge amounts of DNA to be packed inside the very tiny space of the nucleus, and alterations in the structure of chromatin enable access to the DNA for transcription (“reading” genes by production of RNA copies). 4. 24. Studies of histone modification systems in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Författare :Carolina Bonilla; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The genetic information in every cell is carried in the DNA. In eukaryotes the DNA is wrapped twice around proteins called histones forming a repeating unit called the nucleosome, in fibers known as chromatin. Nucleosomes are folded into higher order structures forming the chromosomes. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Transcriptional regulation of ribosome biogenesis in skeletal muscle growth

    Författare :Chang Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Resistance exercise induces skeletal muscle hypertrophy via repeated exercise bouts. The increased muscle protein synthesis together with altered muscle protein degradation contribute to the adaptation of muscle mass. The number of ribosomes dictates the protein synthetic capacity of muscle. LÄS MER
