  1. 1. Regulation of gene expression in fruit flies : how does it start, and will it be remembered?

    Författare :Aman Zare; Per Stenberg; Yuri B. Schwartz; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Guillaume Filion; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; epigenetics; transcription; gene regulation; transcription maintenance; CBP; polymerase pausing; Polycomb group proteins; transgenerational inheritance of transcriptional response; gut microbiome; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most distinctive features of eukaryotic chromosomes is the bundling of DNA together with functionally associated RNA and proteins in chromatin. This allows huge amounts of DNA to be packed inside the very tiny space of the nucleus, and alterations in the structure of chromatin enable access to the DNA for transcription (“reading” genes by production of RNA copies). 2. 2. BEN-solo proteins in genome architecture and function

    Författare :Malin Ueberschär; Qi Dai; Mattias Mannervik; Nicola Iovino; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gene regulation; transcription; insulators; genome architecture; Polymerase II pausing; chromatin; Drosophila development; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Eukaryotic genomes are organized in a complex manner inside the nucleus of each cell. Chromatin insulators are DNA elements that help to fold the linear DNA fiber in three-dimensional space and partition regulatory gene units. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Role of the Escherichia coli RNA Polymerase β´Jaw in Transcription

    Författare :Josefine Ederth; Leif A Isaksson; Anne Farewell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transcription, the central step in gene expression and regulation, is carried out by the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RNAP). Bacterial RNAP is a complex molecular machine in which the network of interacting parts and their movements, including contacts to nascent RNA and the DNA template, are at best partially understood. 4. 4. Transcriptional and epigenetic control of gene expression in embryo development

    Författare :Ann Boija; Mattias Mannervik; Jerry L. Workman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; Cell specification; Drosophila embryo; Dorsal morphogen; CBP p300; Gene regulation; Chromatin; Promoter proximal Pol II pausing; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Sammanfattning : During cell specification, temporal and spatially restricted gene expression programs are set up, forming different cell types and ultimately a multicellular organism. In this thesis, we have studied the molecular mechanisms by which sequence specific transcription factors and coactivators regulate RNA polymerase II (Pol II) transcription to establish specific gene expression programs and what epigenetic patterns that follows. 5. 5. The interplay of transcription and chromatin regulation during embryonic development

    Författare :George Hunt; Mattias Mannervik; Eileen Furlong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription; chromatin; chromatin-modifiers; p300 CBP; Polycomb repression; promoter proximal Pol II pausing; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : A fascinating aspect of multicellular development is the production of diverse cell types from an identical DNA genome, which depends on the ability to express different complements of genes across space and time. This thesis tries to address how the genome, within the chromatin structure that envelops it, is regulated to direct this complex process. LÄS MER
