31. Molecular genetics of type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a common and chronic disease caused by interactions between genetic and environmental factors. The Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rat is a well-established genetic model of type 2 diabetes. LÄS MER
32. Population level genome-wide association studies in dairy cattle
Sammanfattning : In recent years, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) has become a dominant tool for detecting genetic architectures for complex traits. Thousands of associated genetic variants have been reported. However, the resolution of these studies was limited by the available marker density for the quantitative trait loci (QTL) region. LÄS MER
33. Gene mapping of reproduction traits in dairy cattle
Sammanfattning : In this thesis my aims were to map genes affecting reproduction in cattle and to explore the correlated effect of these genes on yield traits. This knowledge is expected to provide novel insights into the biological processes underlying reproduction traits and to identify individual causal polymorphisms or genetic markers for practical application in marker-assisted and genomic selection strategies. 34. Development of Variance Component Methods for Genetic Dissection of Complex Traits
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents several developments on Variance component (VC) approach for Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) mapping. The first part consists of methodological improvements: a new fast and efficient method for estimating IBD matrices, have been developed. LÄS MER
35. Quantitative Genetics and Genomic Selection of Scots pine
Sammanfattning : The final objective of tree improvement programs is to increase the frequency of favourable alleles in a population, for the traits of interest within the breeding programs. To achieve this, it is crucial to decompose the phenotypic variance accurately into its genetic and environmental components in order to obtain a precise estimation of genetic parameters and to increase genetic gains.
