41. Studies on host-related pathogenesis of herpes simplex type-1 encephalitis in rat
Sammanfattning : In order to explore the molecular mechanisms of Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE), a severe infection of the central nervous system (CNS) caused by Herpes simplex type 1 virus (HSV-1); a rat model resembling the human condition was characterized in the DA (Dark Agouti) strain. After injection into the whiskers’ area HSV-1 entered the CNS at the level of the brain stem via the trigeminal ganglion, subsequently spreading to the thalamus, cortex and olfactory bulb, leading to death at five days post infection (dpi). 42. Identification of candidate genes involved in Mercury Toxicokinetics and Mercury Induced Autoimmunity
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Autoimmune diseases require the involvement and activation of immune cells and occur when the body builds up an immune response against its own tissues. This process takes place due to the inability to distinguish self-antigen from foreign antigen. Systemic autoimmunity represents an important cause of morbidity and mortality in humans. LÄS MER
43. Identifying genetic determinants of T cell-dependent autoimmunity using forward genetics
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects 0.5-1% of the population and is an important health and socioeconomic problem. RA has a high degree of heritability. Thus, extensive efforts have been made to better understand the genetic variability contributing to disease susceptibility. LÄS MER
44. Induced responses in willow determine feeding success of a gall-forming insect
Sammanfattning : In the willow Salix viminalis L. (Salicaceae), growth and defence are key responses determining feeding success of the gall midge Dasineura marginemtorquens Bremi (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). The interaction includes induced growth (gall formation), and induced defence (hypersensitive response, HR). LÄS MER
45. Understanding the genetic basis of complex traits
Sammanfattning : Recent advances in genetics and genomics have provided numerous opportunities to study the genetic basis of complex traits. Nevertheless, dissecting the genetic basis of complex traits is still challenged by the complex genetic architecture, in which many genes are involved, and many have small contributions to phenotypic variation, interactions with other genes or environmental factors.
