11. On HIV-1 restriction in human dendritic cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells
Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DCs) are one of the first cells to encounter HIV-1 during sexual transmission. They may transmit the virus to CD4+ T-cells either locally or in the draining lymph nodes. In the present work, we have focused the studies on monocyte derived DCs. Upon DC maturation, HIV-1 replication is restricted in these DCs. LÄS MER
12. Modulation of cellular and viral functions in Epstein-Barr virus infected cells
Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to investigate the interplay of cellular and viral genes in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infected cells. Two aspects of this interaction have been investigated. The first aspect is related to the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules in virus infected malignant cells. LÄS MER
13. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) latent membrane protein (LMP) 2A
Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human herpes virus which infects more than 90% of individuals in the population and is causally implicated in lymphoid and epithelial malignancies. Virus invades oropharyngeal mucosa and establishes latency in memory B lymphocytes. LÄS MER
14. New targeted therapies for malignant neural tumors : From systematic discovery to zebrafish models
Sammanfattning : Cancers in the neural system presents a major health challenge. The most aggressive brain tumor in adults, glioblastoma, has a median survival of 15 months and few therapeutic options. High-risk neuroblastoma, a childhood tumor originating in the sympathetic nervous system, has a 5-year survival under 50%, despite extensive therapy. LÄS MER
15. Mechanisms of immune escape in EBV associated malignancies : Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the analysis of the mechanisms operating in the immune escape of two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated tumors: Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV positive HD tumor cells express at least 3 viral proteins: the EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)1, the latent membrane proteins (LMP)1 and LMP2A. LÄS MER
