  1. 1. Thyroid cancer : studies on etiology and prognosis

    Författare :Arne Hallquist; Lennart Hardell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thyroid cancer; prognostic factors; etiology; occupation; medical ionizing radiation; reproductive; and family factors;

    Sammanfattning : Thyroid cancer constitutes about 1% of all malignant tumours and the incidence is increasing in Sweden. It is rare in children before the age of 10. During puberty the female to male ratio increases to be two to three times more common in females. The ratio remains constant until menopause and thereafter declines. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tumour stromal and demographical factors affecting the metastatic aggressiveness of small differentiated papillary thyroid cancers in Sweden

    Författare :Haytham Bayadsi; Joakim Hennings; Malin Sund; Robert Bränström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Papillary thyroid cancer; Tumour stroma; Geographic information system; Register; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The incidence of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) has been increasing over the recent decades, especially that of small papillary thyroid cancers (sPTCs) (≤ 20mm in size). sPTCs are generally classified as low risk cancers with a very favourable diagnosis, yet some of these cancers still cause locoregional and distant metastasis, recurrence and even death. 3. 3. Genetic Characterization and Identification of Novel Treatment Targets in Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma

    Författare :Naveen Ravi; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaplastic thyroid cancer; copy number alterations; somatic mutations; mutational signatures; DNA methylation analysis; Gene expression analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a rare and highly aggressive thyroid malignancy, usually resistant to conventional therapeutic strategies. The prognosis of ATC is extremely poor with a median survival rate of 6 months. Current treatment therapy includes surgical resection in combination with external radiotherapy and chemotherapy. 4. 4. Reversal of thyroid dedifferentiation and an invasive phenotype by small molecule kinase inhibitors: an experimental study on normal and malignant cells

    Författare :Camilla Ingeson-Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thyroid; cancer; NIS; MAPK; PI3K; BRAFV600E; migration; 3D culture;

    Sammanfattning : Refractoriness to I-131 in dedifferentiated thyroid cancer is a great concern that restricts radioiodine therapy. There is also a lack of knowledge in understanding the mechanisms leading to repressed sodium iodide symporter (NIS) expression and impaired iodide uptake in tumor cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Avidity-guided radionuclide therapy for thyroid cancer

    Författare :Joachim Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer has three main modalities: surgery, hormone suppression and radioiodine therapy. Effective radioiodine therapy requires cancer cells to be iodine avid, i.e. exhibit relatively functional iodine transport and retention. LÄS MER
