  1. 1. Calcified carotid artery atheromas in panoramic radiographs : diagnostic reliability and association to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and periodontitis

    Författare :Nils Gustafsson; Eva Levring Jäghagen; Jan Ahlqvist; Ulf Näslund; Per Wester; Annika Ekestubbe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Panoramic radiographs; cardiovascular disease; carotid artery atheromas; diabetes mellitus; oral health; periodontitis; diagnostic accuracy; myocardial infraction; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Incidental findings of Calcified Carotid Artery Atheromas (CCAA) on Panoramic Radiographs (PRs) of the jaws can be a risk marker for cardiovascular disease. The objectives for the thesis were to investigate the association between CCAA and 1) Myocardial Infarction (MI), 2) periodontitis, 3) diabetes and 4) estimated cardiovascular risk. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Carotid calcifications in panoramic radiographs in relation to carotid stenosis

    Författare :Maria Garoff; Jan Ahlqvist; Eva Levring Jäghagen; Per Wester; Kostas Tsiklakis; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carotid stenosis; panoramic radiography; calcification; atherosclerosis; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Calcifications in carotid atheromas can be detected in a panoramic radiograph (PR) of the jaws. A carotid artery calcification (CAC) can indicate presence of significant (≥ 50%) carotid stenosis (SCS). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Carotid stenosis

    Författare :Elias Johansson; Per Wester; Conny Arnerlöv; Arne Lindgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carotid stenosis; Risk; Recurrence; Stroke; TIA; Near-occlusion; Carotid Endarterectomy; Delay; Panoramic Radiographs; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Neurology; Neurologi; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin; neurologi; Neurology; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Carotid stenosis is one of several causes of ischemic stroke and entails a high risk of ischemic stroke recurrence. Removal of a carotid stenosis by carotid endarterectomy results in a risk reduction for ischemic stroke, but the magnitude of risk reduction depends on several factors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Temporomandibular disorders in women—symptoms and signs in population-based studies

    Författare :Karin Bäck; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Temporomandibular disorders; Women; Degenerative joint disorder; Epidemiology; Oral Health-Related Quality of Life; Osteoporosis; Psychological distress; Radiography; Panoramic; Screening; Temporomandibular joint;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate symptoms and signs of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orofacial pain in the Swedish female population in relation to some other health factors. The thesis includes four cross-sectional studies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Radiography of the mandible prior to endosseous implant treatment. Localization of the mandibular canal and assessment of trabecular bone

    Författare :Christina Lindh; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; trabecular pattern; bone mineral density; bone mineral content; tomography; panoramic radiography; radiography; mandible; endosseous implantation; Odontology; stomatology; Odontologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mandibular autopsy specimens were examined with different radiographic techniques in order to evaluate the visibility of the mandibular canal and the measurement accuracy of distances related to the mandibular canal. Hypocycloidal, spiral and computed tomography (CT) were superior to periapical and panoramic radiography in visualising the mandibular canal. LÄS MER
