1. A Universal Source Coding Perspective on PPM
Sammanfattning : The PPM (Prediction by Partial Matching) family of text compression algorithms has several members that have shown to be very efficient in practice. This thesis treats PPM algorithms from an information-theoretical point of view, based on results and methods from universal source coding theory. LÄS MER
2. High-fluoride Toothpaste (5000 ppm) in Caries Prevention
Sammanfattning : Abstract High-fluoride Toothpaste (5000 ppm) in Caries Prevention Anna Nordström, Department of Cariology, Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Box 450, SE-405 30 Göteborg, Sweden. Dental caries is a common disease in a large number of individuals. LÄS MER
3. Aortic Valve Replacement: The Influence of Prosthesis-Patient Mismatch for Left Ventricular Remodeling, Cardiac Function and Survival
Sammanfattning : The best valve substitute for aortic valve replacement (AVR) in terms of hemodynamic performance, durability, incidence of complications, and survival remains the subject of much debate. It has been suggested that valve performance is influenced by the potentially modifiable variable prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM). LÄS MER
4. Experimental studies on acute health effects of acrolein and other aldehydes
Sammanfattning : Aldehydes are reactive and ubiquitous in indoor as well as outdoors and can give rise to significant health problems in humans, e.g. irritation of the eyes and toxic effects on the upper respiratory tract. This thesis focuses on the irritating and inflammatory properties of three commonly occurring aldehydes; acrolein, crotonaldehyde and hexanal. LÄS MER
5. NO Effect on Inflammatory Reaction in Extracorporeal Circulation : Ex vivo Studies
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is expressed in inflammatory tissues. However, NO effects are controversial in inflammation; NO is described as acting in a dose dependent manner and possess both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties. LÄS MER
