1. Engineering Quality Feelings : Applications in products, service environments and work systems
Sammanfattning : Contemporary quality issues in product design are moving from materialistic to emotional user fulfillment; comprehensive research is needed to examine quality product feelings. This research is directed toward a deeper understanding of user and customer quality feelings for different product types, including services. LÄS MER
2. Numerical and experimental modelling for wave energy arrays optimization
Sammanfattning : Many wave power conversion devices, especially point-absorbers, do not provide alone the necessary amount of converted electricity to be cost effective, instead they are designed to be deployed in arrays of many units. Such arrays, or parks, can satisfy a large-scale energy demand, reduce the costs of the produced electricity and improve the reliability of the system. LÄS MER
3. Two-Level Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for Risk-Based Life Cycle Cost Analysis
Sammanfattning : Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fields in science and engineering and encompasses a wide variety of subfields, ranging from general areas (learning and perception) to specific topics, such as mathematical theorems. AI and, specifically, multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) for risk-based life cycle cost (LCC) analysis should be performed to estimate the optimal replacement time of tunnel fan systems, with a view towards reducing the ownership cost and the risk cost and increasing company profitability from an economic point of view. 4. Protection for Multiterminal HVDC Grids - A Digital Contribution
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to (1) enhance understanding of mechanisms that are important for the protection of high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) grids, and (2) suggest possible technical solutions. To that end, digital technologies were used both in simulation, as well as in a laboratory environment. LÄS MER
5. Evolutionary optimisation of a morphological image processor for embedded systems
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the design, development and implementation of two digital components to be used, primarily, in autonomously operating embedded systems, such as mobile robots. The first component is an image coprocessor, for high-speed morphological image processing, and the second is a hardware-based genetic algorithm coprocessor, which provides evolutionary computation functionality for embedded applications.
