    Sammanfattning : The recent developments and improvements of instrumental methods for the analyses of the environmental contaminants, especially the persistent organic pollutants (POPs), have made it possible to detect and quantify these at very low concentrations in environmental and biotic matrices.The main objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the capability of the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization technique (APCI), using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry for the determination of a wide range of environmental contaminants, including the POPs regulated by Stockholm Convention, such as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), but also the derivates of PBDEs and novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs). 2. 27. EXPOSURE TO PERSISTENT ORGANOCHLORINE POLLUTANTS AND MALE SEMEN FUNCTION

    Författare :Anna Rignell-Hydbom; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Miljömedicin; Environmental health; epididymal and accessory sex gland function; Y:X sperm chromosome ratio; sperm chromation integrity; sperm concentration; sperm motility; persistent organochlorine poluutants;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent organochlorine pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and the insecticide dichloro-diphenyl-dichloro-ethylene (DDT) have been released into the environment mainly since the second World War. POPs accumulate especially in highly ranked predators of the aquatic food chain. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Pollutant profiles as tools for characterisation of environmental exposure

    Författare :Håkan Wingfors; Peter Haglund; Calle Nilsson; Georg Becher; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Multivariate; PCB; PAH; dioxin; PLS; Environment; road tunnel; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with measurements of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in environmental samples. The POPs consist of several groups of compound with many isomers, hence analysing POPs in a complex environment is a This thesis is concerned with measurements of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in environmental samples. 4. 29. Atmospheric transport of persistent organic pollutants to aquatic ecosystems

    Författare :Cecilia Agrell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Temperature; Latitude; Deposition; PCB; Baltic Sea; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The load of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is considered high in the Baltic ecosystem. The Baltic Sea spans over 12 latitudes and the regional differences in climate affect the behavior of POPs. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Genetic, environmental and life-style effects on androgen receptor function

    Författare :Christel Björk; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproductive function; smoking; 4 .4-DDE; persistent organic pollutants; prostate cancer; Androgen receptor; prostate specific antigen; CAG polymorphism; TCDD; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; CB-153;

    Sammanfattning : Androgens regulate male reproductive function and their effects are mediated through the androgen receptor (AR). The AR gene contains a polymorphic CAG repeat, encoding a stretch of glutamines, affecting the transcriptional activity of the AR. LÄS MER
