    Sammanfattning : The recent developments and improvements of instrumental methods for the analyses of the environmental contaminants, especially the persistent organic pollutants (POPs), have made it possible to detect and quantify these at very low concentrations in environmental and biotic matrices.The main objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the capability of the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization technique (APCI), using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry for the determination of a wide range of environmental contaminants, including the POPs regulated by Stockholm Convention, such as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), but also the derivates of PBDEs and novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs). 2. 2. Fewer kids not always by choice : the link between endocrine-disrupting chemicals and female reproductive health

    Författare :Richelle Duque Björvang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Fertility rates are declining from five children per woman in the 1950s to less than three children per woman in 2019. While this is partly due to women choosing to have fewer kids, there are growing evidence that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the environment may play a role in this phenomenon. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biology, ecology and anthropogenic threats of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in east Africa

    Författare :Omar A. Amir; Per Berggren; Graham Pierce; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Growth; reproduction; feeding ecology; bycatch; organohalogen compounds; dolphins; Tursiops aduncus; Zanzibar; East Africa; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the biology, ecology and anthropogenic threats of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) off Zanzibar, Tanzania, based on research conducted and samples collected between 2000 and 2008. Distribution and occurrence are described based on incidental catches (bycatch) in gillnet fisheries. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Airborne Wind Energy - to fly or not to fly?

    Författare :Elena Malz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates crosswind Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWESs) in terms of power production and potential role in future electricity generation systems. The perspective ranges from the small scale, modelling AWE as a single system, to the large, implementing AWESs in regional electricity systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Development and application of high-throughput methods for analysis of persistent organic pollutants in human blood

    Författare :Samira Salihovic; Bert van Bavel; Lars Lind; Myrto Petreas; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human blood; POPs; Perfluoroalkylated substances; Structural isomers; Sample preparation; Column-switch; Mass spectrometry; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The general public is continuously exposed to a wide range of environmental pollutants. This thesis focuses on a group of anthropogenic chemicals referred to as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that have been linked to various adverse health effects in humans. LÄS MER
