  1. 1. Adseverin – An Immune-Specific Target of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin

    Författare :Camilla Svensson; Lars Wärngård; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; 2; 3; 7; 8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin; TCDD; adseverin; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; immunotoxicity; thymus; cytoskeleton; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) induces thymus atrophy and immunosuppression in all animal species examined and these effects constitute a potential risk to humans. TCDD can via binding to the intracellular aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), modulate transcription of a number of genes and the aim of this thesis has been to identify such genes, which may explain the mechanisms behind TCDD-mediated immunotoxicity. 2. 2. ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS AND SPERM Y:X CHROMOSOME RATIO. Impact of androgen- and dioxin-related effects in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Tarmo Tiido; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AR; polymorphisms; Sertoli cell; endocrine disruption; inhibitory cross-talk; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; AHR; sperm Y:X chromosome ratio; sex ratio; POPs; TCDD;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades, there has been concern that the environmental contaminants, such as POPs, may contribute to sex ratio changes in offspring of exposed populations. Accidental exposure to TCDD has been shown to be associated with fewer sons in men who were exposed in adolescence or earlier in life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic, environmental and life-style effects on androgen receptor function

    Författare :Christel Björk; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproductive function; smoking; 4 .4-DDE; persistent organic pollutants; prostate cancer; Androgen receptor; prostate specific antigen; CAG polymorphism; TCDD; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; CB-153;

    Sammanfattning : Androgens regulate male reproductive function and their effects are mediated through the androgen receptor (AR). The AR gene contains a polymorphic CAG repeat, encoding a stretch of glutamines, affecting the transcriptional activity of the AR. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Constitutive and TCDD-induced expression of Ah receptor responsive genes with special focus on the brain and pituitary

    Författare :Ping Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD) and related substances are ubiquitous environmental pollutants causing a number of pathological alterations, the most severe being progressive anorexia and body weight loss. The effects on body weight homeostasis suggest a possible involvement of the nervous system and neuroendocrine areas including the pituitary gland. LÄS MER

  5. 5. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) disrupts vitamin A homeostasis in rodents : quantitative and mechanistic studies to support risk assessment

    Författare :Nick Fletcher; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) exposure is well-known to disrupt Vitamin A (retinoid) homeostasis in rats, resulting in decreased hepatic storage, as well as increased metabolism and excretion of retinoids. The aims of this thesis were (1) to clarify the species and strain sensitivity of TCDDinduced retinoid disruption and (2) to identify cellular targets of TCDD-induced retinoid disruption. LÄS MER
