  1. 1. The Far-Red Limit of Photosynthesis

    Författare :Fredrik Mokvist; Stenbjörn Styring; Tomáš Polívka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Far-red light; Photosystem I; Photosystem II; P700; P680; EPR; Charge Separation; Chemistry with specialization in Molecular Biomimetics; Kemi med inriktning mot molekylär biomimetik;

    Sammanfattning : The photosynthetic process has the unique ability to capture energy from sunlight and accumulate that energy in sugars and starch. This thesis deals with the light driven part of photosynthesis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On the lateral organisation of the thylakoid membrane

    Författare :Ravi Danielsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thylakoid membrane heterogeneity; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; Thylakoid structure; Phase partition; Thylakoid fractions;

    Sammanfattning : In this work the lateral heterogeneity of the thylakoid membrane was investigated by quantifying the amount of photosystem I (PSI), photosystem II (PSII) and some PSII complexes and PSII proteins in different domains of the thylakoid. Grana, grana core, grana margins and stroma lamellae + end fractions were obtained by sonication and separation in a non-detergent, aqueous polymer two-phase system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. How could Christmas trees remain evergreen? : photosynthetic acclimation of Scots pine and Norway spruce needles during winter

    Författare :Pushan Bag; Stefan Jansson; Fransis Andre Wollman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scots Pine; Norway spruce; Photosynthesis; Winter adaptation; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry; biology; biologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Plants and other green organisms harvest sunlight by green chlorophyll pigments and covertit to chemical energy (sugars) and oxygen in a process called photosynthesis providing the foundation for life on Earth. Although it is unanimously believed that oceanic phytoplanktons are the main contributors to the global photosynthesis, the contribution of coniferous boreal forests distributed across vast regions of the northern hemisphere cannot be undermined. 4. 4. Studies on spinach plastocyanin and mutants : Expression in Escherichia coli, folding and function

    Författare :Mikael Ejdebäck; Örjan Hansson; Miguel A. De la Rosa; Göteborgs Universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plastocyanin; electron transfer; copper; protein-protein interactions; protein expression; folding; site-directed mutagenesis; NMR; Naturvetenskap; Natural sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is a process in which photons from sunlight excite chlorophylls in the thylakoid membranes of plants, algae and cyanobacteria. The photo-oxidised reaction centre chlorophyll P700 is re-reduced by an electron transferred from the soluble, blue copper protein plastocyanin. LÄS MER
