26. Smoking and human airway inflammatory cells : studies with focus on T cells in the development of COPD
Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, is characterized by persistent airflow limitation and a chronic inflammation of the lungs. One of the major risk factors is long-term exposure to cigarette smoking. LÄS MER
27. Metabolite Profiling of Drugs using Mass Spectrometry : Identification of analytical targets for doping control and improvements of the metabolite search process
Sammanfattning : Doping is defined as the use of prohibited substances or methods by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the aim with doping control analysis is to detect the use of these illicit substances or methods. Substances that are prohibited in human or equine sports have either a positive or negative impact on the performance. LÄS MER
28. Evaluation of a Miniaturized Rotating Disk Apparatus for In Vitro Dissolution Rate Measurements in Aqueous Media : Correlation of In Vitro Dissolution Rate with Apparent Solubility
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to evaluate a newly designed and constructed miniaturized rotating disk apparatus for in vitro dissolution rate measurements of different drug substances from all of the classes in the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS). The new equipment is based on a low volume flow-through cell of Plexiglas, a gold plated magnetic bar and a special designed press. LÄS MER
29. Reliability of visual assessment of medial temporal lobe atrophy
Sammanfattning : Background: Medial temporal lobe atrophy (MTA) has been found to be an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Visual assessment of MTA (vaMTA) is a rapid, cost-efficient and clinically adaptable visual interpretation method for rating MTA, based on coronal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. LÄS MER
30. Physical capacity, physical activity and skeletal muscle in heart failure : studies of pathophysiology
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis was to provide a better understanding of the pathophysiology of heart failure (HF), especially to explore possible mechanistic links between the failing heart and the periphery, as well as to explore variables with possible prognostic utilisation. In Study I we asked if the degree of variability in physical activity (PA) could hold prognostic value. LÄS MER
