  1. 1. Reactive gliosis in the injured brain: The effect of cell communication and Nrf2-mediated cellular defence

    Författare :Heléne Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Keywords: astrocyte; gap junction; Hmox1; microglia; Nrf2; Nqo1; oxidative stress; reactive gliosis;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke and other brain injuries trigger an extensive glial cell response referred to as reactive gliosis. Reactive gliosis is characterized by hypertrophic and proliferating astrocytes, proliferating microglia and NG2-positive cells, which eventually form a bordering glial scar around the damaged area. 2. 2. Pan-cancer study of transcriptional responses to oncogenic somatic mutations

    Författare :Arghavan Ashouri; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; Driver mutations; Genomics; Transcriptomics; lncRNAs; NRF2; ALK;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer cells typically carry acquired somatic mutations in key cancer driver genes, which can be identified on the basis of recurrence in cancer cohorts. Such mutations may cause aberrant protein activity and altered gene expression in the nucleus, driving the cell toward a cancerous phenotype. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Path to Destruction : Understanding the mechanism and regulation of proteasomal degradation

    Författare :Anne Beskow; Patrick Young; Ylva Engström; Bernat Crosas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteasome; ubiquitin; p97; Cnc-C; transcription factors; Nrf1; Nrf2; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : A majority of intracellular proteins are degraded by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS). In this thesis, both the mechanism of the degradation and the regulation of UPS have been investigated. The importance of the p97 ATPase for proteasomal degradation of cytosolic substrates was examined. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Astrocytic communication and cell death during metabolic depression and oxidative stress

    Författare :Christina Nodin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :astrocyte; gap junction; ATP; ROS; oxidative stress; Annexin V; AIF; programmed cell death; Nrf2; scavenger; iodoacetate; SIN-1;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a major cause of death and adult disability in the western world. Most often, stroke is caused by the occlusion of a brain artery. Within the perfusion territory of the occluded vessel, various degrees of necrotic and delayed programmed cell death will occur if the occlusion persists, leading to expanding tissue damage. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of oxidative stress response in radiosensitivity

    Författare :Ali Pour Khavari; Siamak Haghdoost; Bo Stenerlöw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidative stress; radiosensitivity; 8-oxo-dG; DNA-repair; NRF2; glioblastoma; radiotherapy; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : The quality of the ionizing radiation (IR) can be described in terms of its nature, photons or particles, and their corresponding energies. The energy is classified in terms of High or Low linear energy transfer that will produce a different distribution of DNA damage and other molecules in the cell either by direct action or indirect action.
