31. The impact of mesospheric dynamics and chemistry on key chemical species: 20 years of Odin/SMR satellite observations
Sammanfattning : Coupling mechanisms between different atmospheric layers are such that changes in middle atmospheric dynamics and composition have an effect on what happens at lower altitudes and on the climate. There is therefore a need to extend climate models to include higher altitudes and to perform measurements of the middle atmosphere. LÄS MER
32. Radical aspects on arthritis : the role of neutrophil generation of nitric oxide and superoxide in inflammatory conditions
Sammanfattning : The polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes (neutrophils) are gaining renewed interest regarding their involvement in chronic inflammatory disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Besides phagocytic and destructive capabilities, neutrophils have regulatory roles, e.g. by influencing responses from dendritic cells and lymphocytes. LÄS MER
33. Effects of Rho kinase, prostacyclin and L-arginine on microvascular permeability and perfusion
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents some effects of Rho kinase, prostacyclin (PGI2) and nitric oxide (NO) in relation to trauma and inflammation by evaluating their effects on microvascular perfusion and permeability in mouse brain and in cat skeletal muscle. PGI2 and NO are endogenous vasoactive substances produced by the endothelium. LÄS MER
34. Coeliac Disease in Childhood : On the Intestinal Mucosa and the Use of Oats
35. Systemic sclerosis : vascular, pulmonary and immunological aspects
Sammanfattning : In systemic sclerosis (SSc), interstitial lung disease (ILD) and engagement of the vascular system lead to increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate, in a consecutively included cohort of SSc (limited and diffuse) patients (n = 33), the T cell cytokine profile driving the disease in ILD and to explore the role of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and its inhibitor: tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in the extracellular matrix (ECM) degrading process leading to fibrous scarring and honey combing.
