  1. 11. Neuropeptide and catecholamine effects on tenocytes in tendinosis development : studies on two model systems with focus on proliferation and apoptosis

    Författare :Ludvig Backman; Patrik Danielson; Malcolm Collins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P; neurotransmitter; tendinopathy; overuse injury; rabbit; tendon cell; Achilles tendon;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Achilles tendinopathy is a common clinical syndrome of chronic Achilles tendon pain combined with thickening of the tendon and impaired tendon function. Tendinopathy is often, but not always, induced by mechanical overload, and is frequently accompanied by abnormalities at the tissue level, such as hypercellularity and angiogenesis, in which case the condition is called tendinosis. 2. 12. Mechanisms regulating Natural Killer Cell Cytotoxicity

    Författare :Hanna van Ooijen; Björn Önfelt; Karl-Johan Malmberg; Karolin Guldevall; Morgan Huse; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural Killer cell; Live-cell microscopy; Single cell; 3D; Microwell;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last 50 years, cancer survival rates have steadily improved thanks to earlier detection and novel treatment regimens. For example, drugs that act on the immune system, so-called immunotherapy, have drastically increased the prospect of survival for patients suffering from some of the most aggressive cancer types including advanced malignant melanoma. 3. 13. NK Cell Cytotoxicity at the Single Cell Level

    Författare :Ludwig Brandt; Björn Önfelt; Fredrik Bergh Thorén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells are innate immune cells with the ability to recognize and eliminate virally infected cells and cancer cells without prior sensitization. There is a functional heterogeneity between individual NK cells, where some NK cells are more efficient at killing cancer cells than others. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Lineage commitment to a T

    Författare :Sidinh Luc; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic stem cell; hematopoiesis; lineage commitment; lymphoid-primed multipotent progenitor;

    Sammanfattning : he hematopoietic development is a highly dynamic but tightly regulated process. The flexibility to produce blood cells through more than one route will allow the blood system to respond rapidly in stress situations such as infections. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Sex differences in immune response and sex hormone receptor expression in healthy individuals and during viral infection

    Författare :Peik M. A. Brundin; Anders F. Johansson; Ivan Nalvarte; Carl-Johan Treutiger; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : There is sex-bias in morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases. Infections kill more men than women and several studies have pointed out differences in the immune system as a reason. The sex hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone all shape the effect of the immune response on multiple levels. LÄS MER
