16. Molecular Processes in Dynamic Wetting : Du som saknar dator/datorvana kan kontakta Cathrine Bergh, [email protected] för information
Sammanfattning : The spreading of liquids onto and over surfaces is a fundamental process in nature. It is present in all forms and sizes: From rivers carving through landscapes, to our blood stream transporting nutrients to cells, and even single water molecules moving through channels into these cells. 17. Structural and biochemical insights into biosynthesis and degradation of N-glycans
Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are a primary energy source for all living organisms, but importantly, they also participate in a number of life-sustaining biological processes, e.g. cell signaling and cell-wall synthesis. The first part of the thesis examines glycosyltransferases that play a crucial role in the biosynthesis of N-glycans. LÄS MER
18. Soil microbial responses to mild winters and seasonal change
Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis work was to study microorganisms response to milder winters, different seasons, and altered temperature. Winter warming treatments were established in a semi-natural temperate grassland, simulating mild winters for two years. LÄS MER
19. Studies on Thiol-Disulfide Oxidoreductases in Bacillus subtilis
Sammanfattning : Bacillus subtilis is a model organism for endospore-forming gram-positive bacteria. Endospores are formed in response to nutrient starvation. They can resist harsh environments and last for long periods of time. Once nutrients again become available, the endospore can germinate and the vegetative life cycle be resumed. LÄS MER
20. Evolutionary Resolutions of Conflicts with Mates and Offspring
Sammanfattning : In sexual conflicts and conflicts between parents and offspring, natural selection acts in different directions on the two sides. For example, males may be selected to achieve many mates, but female fitness may be maximised by monogamy. In this thesis I study the evolutionary outcome of these situations mainly by theoretical modelling. LÄS MER
