11. Combustion, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer in Oxy-fuel and Air-Fired CFB boilers
Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis develop and encode modeling tools for the design and scale-up of oxy-fuel circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers across a wide range of operational conditions. The modeling comprises fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer and uses expressions that are proposed in this work or derived from the literature, together with experimental data obtained under both oxy-fuel-fired and air-fired conditions. 12. Computational Techniques for Coupled Flow-Transport Problems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents numerical techniques for solving problems of incompressible flow coupled to scalar transport equations using finite element discretizations in space. The two applications considered in this thesis are multi-phase flow, modeled by level set or phase field methods, and planetary mantle convection based on the Boussinesq approximation. LÄS MER
13. Analysis of Turbulent Flows-From Chaos to Structure
Sammanfattning : The development of models for several phenomena occurring in turbulent single and multi-phase flows requires improved description and quantification of turbulent structures. Phenomena such as, for example, mixing, coalescence and break-up, are often fast and nonlinear. LÄS MER
14. Mathematical Model of the Solid Flow Behavior in a Real Dimension Blast Furnace
Sammanfattning : A mathematical model based on the continuum mechanic concept has been developed to describe the profile of solid particles in an industrial scale blast furnace. The focus is the in-furnace conditions and its characteristics such as the shape and size of the deadman. LÄS MER
15. TOWARDS ACCELERATED SIMULATIONS FOR FLUID FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER OF LARGE INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES
Sammanfattning : The manufacturing sector is one of the biggest energy consumers. The iron and steel markets in China are growing very fast. Several studies have been performed to evaluate the Chinese steel sector in terms of energy savings and CO2 emissions. LÄS MER
