  1. 1. Numerical methods for the Navier–Stokes equations applied to turbulent flow and to multi-phase flow

    Författare :Martin Kronbichler; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the numerical approximation of flow problems, in particular the large eddy simulation of turbulent flow and the simulation of laminar immiscible two-phase flow. The computations for both applications are performed with a coupled solution approach of the Navier-Stokes equations discretized with the finite element method. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational Techniques for Coupled Flow-Transport Problems

    Författare :Martin Kronbichler; Gunilla Kreiss; Jean-Luc Guermond; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents numerical techniques for solving problems of incompressible flow coupled to scalar transport equations using finite element discretizations in space. The two applications considered in this thesis are multi-phase flow, modeled by level set or phase field methods, and planetary mantle convection based on the Boussinesq approximation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Summation-by-parts formulations for flow problems

    Författare :Fredrik Laurén; Jan Nordström; Andrew Ross Winters; Martin Kronbichler; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Many problems in engineering and physics can be described by partial differential equations (PDEs). Augmented with proper initial and boundary conditions, the PDE forms an initial-boundary value problem (IBVP). An IBVP is said to be well-posed if a unique solution bounded by the given data exists.
