31. Estrogen and Glucocorticoid Metabolism
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in Sweden. The risk of CVD increases rapidly after the menopause. A major contributing factor may be the redistribution of adipose tissue, from the peripheral to central depots, associated with menopause. LÄS MER
32. Meiotic Recombination in Human and Dog : Targets, Consequences and Implications for Genome Evolution
Sammanfattning : Understanding the mechanism of recombination has important implications for genome evolution and genomic variability. The work presented in this thesis studies the properties of recombination by investigating the effects it has on genome evolution in humans and dogs. LÄS MER
33. High volumetric machining strategies for superalloy gasturbine components : Comparing conventional and nonconventional machining methods for efficient manufacturing
Sammanfattning : There is a strong industrial driving force to find alternative manufacturing technologies in order to make the production of aero engine components of superalloys even more efficient than it is today. Introducing new and nonconventional machining technologies, as well as enhanced utilisation of today's high volumetric manufacturing, allows taking a leap to increase the material removal rate and the productivity. 34. Slow and stopped light by light-matter coherence control
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study light-matter coherence phenomena related to the interaction of a coherent laser field and the so-called Λ-system, a three-level quantum system (e.g., an atom). We observe electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), slow and stored light in hot rubidium vapor. LÄS MER
35. Structural Basis for Hydrogen Interaction in Selected Metal Hydrides
Sammanfattning : Metal hydrides have existing and potential uses in many applications such as in batteries, for hydrogen storage and for heat storage. New metal hydrides and a better understanding of the behaviour of known metal hydrides may prove crucial in the realisation or further development of these applications. LÄS MER
