  1. 1. Human demographic history : Insights on the human past based on genomes from Southern through Central Africa

    Författare :Gwenna Breton; Mattias Jakobsson; Carina Schlebusch; Per Sjödin; Paul Verdu; David Comas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :high-coverage genomes; Sub-Saharan Africa; demography; genetic admixture; population genetics; human evolutionary genetics; Khoe-San; rainforest hunter-gatherers; Biology with Specialisation in Human Evolution and Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot människans evolution och genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Evidence from paleontology, archaeology and population genetics support that modern humans originated in Africa. While the out-of-Africa event and subsequent colonization of all continents are well documented, human history in Africa at that time and before is less studied. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The geographical dimensions of partner choice

    Författare :Karen Haandrikman; Rijksuniversiteit Groningen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; partner choice; register data; the Netherlands; homogamy; spatial patterns; Demography; Demografi; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; demografi; Demography; Human Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The dissertation of Karen Haandrikman shows that spatial homogamy, or the similarity of partners regarding their geographical origins, plays a key role in partner choice. The research shows that Dutch cohabiters find their partner at very short distances. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Green consumption energy use and carbon dioxide emission

    Författare :Eva Alfredsson; Einar Holm; Neil Swan; Kerstin Westin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social and economic geography; Energy consumption; Carbon dioxide emission; Energy intensity; Carbon intensity; Life cycle assessment; Consumption patterns; Lifestyles; Systems analysis; Microsimulation modelling; Demography; Sustainability; Rebound effects; Substitution effects; Kulturgeografi; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed. 4. 4. Where our feet have taken us : Examples of human contact, migration, and adaptation as revealed by ancient DNA

    Författare :Alexandra Coutinho; Mattias Jakobsson; Helena Malmström; Carina Schlebusch; Tom Gilbert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human demography; migration; adaptation; human contact; ancient DNA; human evolution; African prehistory; Scandinavian prehistory; Biology with Specialisation in Human Evolution and Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot människans evolution och genetik;

    Sammanfattning : In spite of our extensive knowledge of the human past, certain key questions remain to be answered about human prehistory. One involves the nature of cultural change in material culture through time from the perspective of how different ancient human groups interacted with one another. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Life paths through space and time: Adding the micro-level geographic context to longitudinal historical demographic research

    Författare :Finn Hedefalk; Centrum för ekonomisk demografi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Geographic micro-level factors; longitudinal historical data; geocoding; historical demography; 19th century; individual level; spatio-temporal analysis; detailed geographic data; geographic context.; property units; rural historical soceties; Geographic micro-level factors; longitudinal historical data; geocoding; historical demography; 19th century; individual level; spatio-temporal analysis; detailed geographic data; property units; geographic context;

    Sammanfattning : Historical demographic research is central to understanding past human behaviours and traits, such as fertility, mortality and migration. An essential part of historical demography is conducting longitudinal analyses at the micro-level, which involves the detailed follow-up of individuals over long time periods throughout their lives.
