  1. 1. Pharmacodynamic modeling of cardiovascular effects of Σb-antagonists and moxonidine : Special emphasis on tolerance and rebound effects

    Författare :Lena Brynne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmacodynamic (PD) modeling was used to characterize and quantify the short- and long-term changes in cardiovascular effects following treatment with β-antagonists or imidazoline receptor agonist moxonidine, in spontaneous hypertensive rats and patients with congestive heart failure, respectively. The complex cardiovascular system is regulated by several feedback mechanisms with different time domains and gains. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modelling of tolerance and rebound in normal and diseased rats

    Författare :Christine Ahlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :feedback modelling; tolerance; rebound; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; dyslipidaemia; nicotinic acid; non-esterified fatty acids;

    Sammanfattning : The development of rebound and tolerance is an important consideration when optimizing medical therapy, both with respect to drug dosing and adverse effects. By using quantitative approaches to study these processes, potential risks can be minimized. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Green consumption energy use and carbon dioxide emission

    Författare :Eva Alfredsson; Einar Holm; Neil Swan; Kerstin Westin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social and economic geography; Energy consumption; Carbon dioxide emission; Energy intensity; Carbon intensity; Life cycle assessment; Consumption patterns; Lifestyles; Systems analysis; Microsimulation modelling; Demography; Sustainability; Rebound effects; Substitution effects; Kulturgeografi; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed. 4. 4. Energy efficiency - Trends, determinants, trade-offs and rebound effects with examples from Swedish housing

    Författare :Jonas Nässén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building sector; Sweden; carbon dioxide; rebound effect; energy policy; Energy efficiency; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on five separate papers. The first paper analyses the development of the Swedish building sector over time by decomposing CO2 emissions in underlying trends, and studying separate energy use trends for existing buildings, new buildings and best available technology. 5. 5. Essays on energy efficiency, environmental regulation and labor demand in Swedish industry

    Författare :Golnaz Amjadi; Lars Persson; Tommy Lundgren; Luis Orea; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Energy efficiency improvement; rebound effect; stochastic frontier analysis; data envelopment analysis; stochastic energy demand frontier model; persistent and transient energy inefficiency; energy inefficiency; environmental expenditure and environmental investment costs; output demand elasticity; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Paper [I] Energy efficiency improvement (EEI) benefits the climate and matters for energy security. The potential emission and energy savings due to EEI may however not fully materialize due to the rebound effect. LÄS MER
