  1. 6. Host-pathogen interactions in invasive Staphylococcus aureus infections

    Författare :Srikanth Mairpady Shambat; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Staphylococcus aureus is a versatile human pathogen causing a wide range of diseases from uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections to life-threatening invasive diseases like endocarditis, bacteremia, necrotizing pneumonia, and fasciitis. The pathogen has become increasingly resistant to -lactam antibiotics, and of special concern is the rise in community- acquired (CA)-MRSA strains, as specific CA-MRSA clones have been associated with highly aggressive infections. 2. 7. Host-pathogen interactions during Campylobacter and Yersinia infections

    Författare :Nayyer Taheri; Anna Fahlgren; Maria Fällman; Sun Nyunt Wai; Elena Vikström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Campylobacter jejuni; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; OMV; bile; temperature; proteomic;

    Sammanfattning : The innate immune system is known for protecting the host against invading pathogens, for instance enteropathogens infecting the gastrointestinal tract. The production of e.g. antimicrobial peptides, cytokines, and chemokines by innate immune cells and intestinal epithelial cells contribute to bacterial clearance. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Host-pathogen interactions in root infecting oomycete species

    Författare :Sara Hosseini; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The oomycetes include some of the most devastating pathogens on both cultivated crops and wild plants. In the genus Phytophthora some closely related species have a broad host range, while others are very host specific. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Host-pathogen interactions during tick-borne flavivirus infection : pathogenesis, tropism and tools

    Författare :Ebba Rosendal; Anna K. Överby Wernstedt; Emma Nilsson; Jonathan D. Gilthorpe; Sonja M. Best; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; Langat virus; pathogenesis; type I interferons; central nervous system; neuroinflammation; structural proteins; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a neurotropic member of the genus Flavivirus. It may transmit to humans through the bite of an infected tick or consumption of unpasteurized dairyproducts, and causes tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). TBE constitutes a significant health burden in Eurasia, with more than 10,000 cases reported every year. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Host-pathogen interactions in severe group A streptococcal infections

    Författare :Pontus Thulin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes, also called group A Streptococcus (GAS), is an important human pathogen ranked number 9 on the list of global killer pathogens. It causes a wide spectrum of disease, including uncomplicated superficial infections of the skin and throat, to life-threatening invasive infections and post-streptococcal sequelae. LÄS MER
