  1. 6. Allochthonous and autochthonous carbon sources of lake bacterioplankton

    Författare :Emma Kritzberg; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; bacterial community composition; bacterial growth efficiency; bacterioplankton; carbon subsidy; dissolved organic carbon; limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Organic substrates for pelagic bacteria are derived from dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the water column that originates either from primary production from within the lake itself (autochthonous), or import of organic matter from the terrestrial watershed (allochthonous production). This thesis addresses the utilization of allochthonous versus autochthonous carbon (C) sources by lake bacterioplankton. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Formation, uptake and bioaccumulation of methylmercury in coastal seas : a baltic sea case study

    Författare :Aleksandra Skrobonja; Erik Björn; Agneta Andersson; Anne L. Soerensen; Marc Amyot; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mercury; methylmercury; bioaccumulation; mesososm; isotope tracers; methylation; demethylation; stability constant; kinetic model; coastal sea; ICPMS; LC-MS MS;

    Sammanfattning : Methylmercury (MeHg) is a potent neurotoxin which can bioaccumulate to harmful levels in aquatic food webs. Methylmercury formation is a predominantly biotic process which involves phylogenically diverse microorganisms (e.g. iron- or sulfate-reducing bacteria). LÄS MER

  3. 8. Food web structures and carbon transfer efficiencies in a brackish water ecosystem

    Författare :Kristin Dahlgren; Ulf Båmstedt; Agneta Andersson; Marja Koski; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon transfer efficiency; Food web efficiency; zooplankton; production; pelagic; benthic; fatty acids; wax esters; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Two differently structured food webs can be distinguished in the pelagic habitat of aquatic systems; the classical one (autotrophic) with phytoplankton as a base and the microbial food web (heterotrophic) with bacteria as a base. Energy (produced at the basal trophic level) reaches higher trophic levels, i.e. LÄS MER
