1. Transport and environment incentive policy instruments : effects and interactions
Sammanfattning : This dissertation studies issues related to the evaluation of the effects and interactions of transport and environmental incentive policy instruments. Essay 1: Green cars sterilize congestion charges: a model analysis of the reduced impact of Stockholm road tolls calibrates a modal-choice model with data from the Stockholm road toll and uses it to study the sensitivity of congestion toll effects to some seemly subtle changes in the toll system design and external circumstances. 2. Allochthonous and autochthonous carbon sources of lake bacterioplankton
Sammanfattning : Organic substrates for pelagic bacteria are derived from dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the water column that originates either from primary production from within the lake itself (autochthonous), or import of organic matter from the terrestrial watershed (allochthonous production). This thesis addresses the utilization of allochthonous versus autochthonous carbon (C) sources by lake bacterioplankton. LÄS MER
3. Carbon Sink or Energy Source : Economic perspectives on future uses of forest resources in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Abstract Forests and the resources they offer have been important for the Swedish economy for a long time, and the forest industry remains a large part of the manufacturing industry even as the economy is becoming more service-based. Forests are also increasingly seen as an important source of biofuels that can be used to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and to reach the target for a carbon neutral economy by the year 2050. 4. Ecology across Boundaries : Food web coupling among and within ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Cross-boundary movements of energy and material are ubiquitous. Freshwater ecosystems receive nutrients, dissolved, and particulate organic matter from adjacent terrestrial ecosystems, whereas terrestrial ecosystems mainly receive prey organisms and detritus deposited by physical processes such as floods from freshwater ecosystems. 5. Instruments for reaching climate objectives. Focusing on the time aspects of bioenergy and allocation rules in the European Union's Emission Trading System
Sammanfattning : The Europeans Union’s (EU’s) climate and energy strategy aims at reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) by 20 % (compared to 1990) and to increase the share of renewable energy to 20 % by the year 2020. Increased use of bioenergy is considered key in these efforts. LÄS MER
