  1. 11. Remote sensing of grassland communities : integrated effects of soil nutrients and habitat age

    Författare :Oskar Löfgren; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Remote sensing; Plant ecology; semi-natural grassland; Nitrogen; Phosphorus; Semi-natural grassland; Plant ecology; Remote sensing; Nitrogen; Phosphorus; Spectral reflectance; grassland specialists; Succession;

    Sammanfattning : Semi-natural grasslands are characterized by high fine-scale plant species richness. The richest grassland communities, with many habitat-specialist species, are found in ancient grassland sites that have a long continuity of grazing management and low levels of soil nutrients. Grazed grasslands were widespread in the historical landscape. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

    Författare :Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Black-tailed godwit; Limosa limosa; nest site selection; nest predation; philopatry; risk analysis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population.The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Environmental policy for ecosystem services and biodiversity : preferences for fish conservation and instruments for forest policy

    Författare :Brian Danley; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Threats to ecosystem services and biodiversity are some of the most important contemporary policy problems facing the planet. Consisting of four papers, the motivation for this thesis is threefold: to understand the different ways of defining the benefits humans receive from the environment, how the public may be able to understand more nuanced scientific aspects of biodiversity, and how forest policy instruments are used to encourage family forest owners to safeguard ecosystem services and biodiversity on their properties. 4. 14. Evolutionary Processes and Spatial Genetic Variation in Euphrasia stricta on the Baltic Island of Gotland

    Författare :Anna-Karin Kolseth; Brita Svensson; Mikael Lönn; Joop Ouborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; genetic differentiation; regional processes; conservation genetics; AFLP; microsatellites; gene flow; local adaptation; shape analysis; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The identification of processes governing genetic structure at different spatial scales remains a major challenge in evolutionary biology and is of considerable applied interest in conservation biology. In Euphrasia stricta five varieties have been identified (brevipila, gotlandica, stricta, suecica and tenuis) based on differences in habitat, phenology and morphology. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Landscape Ecological Analysis and Assessment in an Urbanising Environment - forest birds as biodiversity indicators

    Författare :Ulla Mörtberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Landscape ecology; planning; strategic environmental assessment; biodiversity;

    Sammanfattning : To achieve a sustainable development, impacts onbiodiversity of urbanisation, infrastructure, land use changesand other developments must be considered on a landscape andregional scale. Landscape ecology can provide a conceptualframework for the assessment of consequences of long-termdevelopment processes like urbanisation on biodiversity on alandscape scale, and for evaluating the impacts of alternativeplanning scenarios.
