  1. 1. Hydrodynamics considerations in cells systems from ocean flow to perfusion cultivation process

    Författare :Caijuan Zhan; Véronique Chotteau; Jeffrey Chalmers; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microorganism; cells; hydrodynamics; turbulence; numerical simulation; CFD; Resonance; Wave bioreactor; ATF; TFF; perfusion; design feeding strategy; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Microorganisms and animal cells are grown surrounded by fluid, which is providing them with nutrients and removing their waste products. In nature and industry processes, cells/microbes can be subject to aggressive environments, such as turbulent flow or shear flow. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evolution of olfaction in Lepidoptera and Trichoptera : Gene families and antennal morphology

    Författare :Jothi Kumar Yuvaraj; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolution; pheromone receptors; olfaction; chemosensory; sensillum; HEK 293 cells;

    Sammanfattning : In moths, females produce sex pheromone compounds to attract males over a long distance for mating. The antennae of moths and many other insects have specialized odorant receptors (ORs), called pheromone receptors (PRs), to sense the pheromone compounds and they group in a monophyletic clade (PR clade). 3. 3. Atomic force microscopic studies of inner ear structure and mechanics

    Författare :Alexandra Zelenskaya; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Atomic force microscopy; indentation curves; mechanical properties; outer hair cells; shell-core model; electromotility; prestin; otoconia; tympanic membrane.;

    Sammanfattning : The transduction processes occurring in the inner ear, from sound induced vibration or head movements to nerve impulses sent to the brain, are to a large part dependent on the mechanical properties of the different components of this organ, especially the sensory hair cells. The function of the hearing organ is for example dependent on the unique mechanoelectric transduction properties of the cochlear outer hair cells (OHCs), which are able to respond to electrophysiological and mechanical stimulations by changing their shape and their mechanical properties. 4. 4. Role of Tripeptidyl peptidase II in cell cycle regulation and tumor progression

    Författare :Vaia Stavropoulou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; Burkitt s lymphoma; cell cycle; centrosome; genetic instability; Golgi; mitosis; tripeptidyl-peptidase II;

    Sammanfattning : Protein degradation is essential for many cellular functions and the ubiquitin-proteasome system controls the turnover of most cellular proteins and plays a pivotal role in the regulation of basic physiological processes and in the pathogenesis of many diseases. Alterations in the metabolism of proteins involved in the regulation of cell cycle and apoptosis may result in uncontrolled cell division, which em lead to malignant transformation and tumor development One melt example is the Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), a highly malignant B-cell tumor characterized by chromosomal translocations that constitutively activate the c-myc oncogene. 5. 5. Molecular and diagnostic aspects of the protein p41 of HHV-6 and silencing of the CD46 receptor by RNA interference

    Författare :Yunhe Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human herpesvirus 6; p41; multiple sclerosis; RNA interference; small interfering RNAs; CD46;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (CNS), leading to sensory and motor disability in young adults. There is no efficient treatment of the disease. Its etiology is unknown. LÄS MER
