  1. 1. Adenoviral small non-coding RNAs : A Structural and Functional Charaterization

    Författare :Wael Kamel; Göran Akusjärvi; Ben Berkhout; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :non-coding RNA miRNA mivaRNA canonical Dicer Ago2 TSS m7G Cap Adenovirus replication E2B;

    Sammanfattning : Since their discovery in 1953, adenoviruses have significantly contributed to the understanding of virus-host cell interactions, including mechanistic details of cellular processes such as cell cycle control and alternative RNA splicing. Among the first characterized adenoviral genes were the virus-associated RNAs (VA RNAI/II), which are produced in massive amount during a lytic infection. LÄS MER

  2. 2. miRNA and Asymmetric siRNA : Small RNAs with Large Effects on Bone Metabolism

    Författare :Navya Laxman; Andreas Kindmark; Sara Windahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; miRNA; cp-siRNA; RNAi; bone; Osteoblast; Sequencing; Differential expression; Wnt pathway; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : RNA interference (RNAi) is a post-transcriptional gene silencing process elicited by double-stranded RNA, such as micro-RNA (miRNA) and small interfering RNA (siRNA). They are 18-25 nucleotide long, small non-coding RNAs acting as critical regulators in eukaryotic genome expression. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functionally-associated target antigens in cancer. Defined by human antibodies and small interfering RNAs

    Författare :Johan Fransson; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phage display; Antibody; cancer; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Cytology;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is the collective name for diseases that have one thing in common ? uncontrolled cell growth. The increase in cancer cell proliferation eventually results in tumor formation and, in the worst case, metastatic spread to other organs. Common treatment modalities of cancer include chemotherapy and radiation therapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nucleic Acids as Drugs and Drug Targets With Focus on Anticancer Active Platinum Complexes and Small Interfering RNAs

    Författare :Hanna Hedman; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anticancer drugs; platinum complexes; cisplatin; oxaliplatin; nucleic acid; RNA; DNA; siRNA; thermodynamic stability; mass spectrometry; MALDI-MS; chemical probing; luciferase assay;

    Sammanfattning : To ensure that patients receive a safe and effective treatment, it is important to understand how drugs interact with and affect molecules within a cell. Here, evaluation of platinum based drugs and their ability to interfere with nucleic acid functions is presented. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular and diagnostic aspects of the protein p41 of HHV-6 and silencing of the CD46 receptor by RNA interference

    Författare :Yunhe Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human herpesvirus 6; p41; multiple sclerosis; RNA interference; small interfering RNAs; CD46;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (CNS), leading to sensory and motor disability in young adults. There is no efficient treatment of the disease. Its etiology is unknown. LÄS MER
