  1. 1. Membrane effects on proton transfer in cytochrome c oxidase

    Författare :Linda Näsvik Öjemyr; Peter Brzezinski; Anthony G. Lee; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrom c oxidase; lipids; membrane; proton transfer; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The biological membrane is composed of lipids and proteins that make up dynamic barriers around cells and organelles. Membrane-spanning proteins are involved in many key processes in the cell such as energy conversion, nerve conduction and signal transduction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Synthesis and protein curing abilities of membrane glycolipids

    Författare :Malin Wikström; Åke Wieslander; Anthony Lee; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane; lipids; glycolipids; nonbilayer-prone; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : There are many types of membrane lipids throughout Nature. Still little is known about synthesizing pathways and how different lipids affect the embedded membrane proteins. The most common lipids are glycolipids since they dominate plant green tissue. Glycolipids also exist in mammal cells as well as in most Gram-positive bacteria. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The growth of waves by wind as a problem in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

    Författare :Anthony Bonfils; John Wettlaufer; Kristian Gustafsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; out-of-equilibrium system; fluctuation spectrum; oscillatory force; classical Casimir effect; non-linear waves; wave turbulence; wind-wave coupling.; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In 1948, Casimir predicted a net attractive force between two perfectly conducting parallel plates due to electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations. By analogy, the interaction of two ships on a wavy sea has been named Maritime Casimir effect. This is an example of force generation in non-equilibrium systems. LÄS MER
