1. On droplet interactions and suspension flow
Sammanfattning : Micron to millimetre sized droplets, precisely generated or sustained in controlled environment, have great potential in myriads of engineering applications functioning as the basic element to assemble metamaterials, deliver drugs, host surfactant, reduce friction and damp turbulence. The interaction of droplets from pairwise to collective levels is the most important factor in controlling these processes, yet little is known about the detailed mechanisms in various nonideal conditions. 2. Biophysical studies of the actin-myosin motor system and applications in nanoscience
Sammanfattning : The actin-myosin motor system plays important roles in cellular processes. In addition, actin and myosin have been used for developments towards nanotechnological applications in recent years. LÄS MER
3. Stability and transition in pitching wings
Sammanfattning : The aeroelastic stability of airplanes is one of the most important aspects of airplane design. Flutter or divergence instabilities arising out of the interaction of fluid forces and structural elasticity must be avoided by design or through the limitation of the flight envelope. LÄS MER
4. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica
Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 5. Flow Duct Acoustics : An LES Approach
Sammanfattning : The search for quieter internal combustion engines drives the quest for a better understanding of the acoustic properties of engine duct components. Simulations are an important tool for enhanced understanding; they give insight into the flow-acoustic interaction in components where it is difficult to perform measurements. LÄS MER
