1. Direct numerical simulations of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow that is induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented are mostly limited to linear instabilities derived from direct numerical simulations (DNS) but with the objective that further work will focus on the nonlinear regime, providing greater insights into the transition route to turbulence. 2. The rotating-disk boundary-layer flow studied through numerical simulations
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow thatis induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented include bothwork in the linear and nonlinear regime and are derived from direct numerical sim-ulations (DNS). LÄS MER
3. Coherent structures and control in wall-bounded turbulent flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with two distinct topics related to the study of wall-bounded turbulence: the connection between instantaneous three-dimensional coherent structures and mean-flow properties, and the development and analysis of pre-determined control techniques for adverse-pressure-gradient boundary layers. We examined regions with intense velocity fluctuations in various flowcases. 4. Nonlinear dynamics in transitional wall-bounded flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on numerical studies of subcritical transition to turbulence in shear flows. The thesis employs a framework based on nonlinear dynamics in the subsequent studies. The geometrical approach to subcritical transition pivots the concepts of edge manifold and edge state. LÄS MER
5. Simulations of turbulent boundary layers with suction and pressure gradients
Sammanfattning : The focus of the present licentiate thesis is on the effect of suction and pressure gradients on turbulent boundary-layer flows, which are investigated separately through performing numerical simulations. The first part aims at assessing history and development effects on adverse pressure-gradient (APG) turbulent boundary layers (TBL).
