1. Catch and effort from a recreational trolling fishery in a large lake
Sammanfattning : Over recent decades recreational fisheries have grown substantially throughout the world. Despite this increase, catches from recreational fisheries have often been ignored in fisheries management, although this is now being remedied. LÄS MER
2. Fishy behavior : persistent effects of early-life exposure to 17α-ethinylestradiol
Sammanfattning : The synthetic estrogen 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) is an endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) of concern due to its persistent nature and widespread presence in the aquatic environment. In mammals, effects of developmental EDC exposure on reproduction and behavior not only persist to adulthood after discontinued exposure, but are also inherited by several consecutive unexposed generations. 3. Casting for Knowledge and Landing Understanding : Exploring the management of Swedish recreational fisheries as social-ecological systems
Sammanfattning : The successful management of recreational fisheries must balance ecological, and social goals; select from and implement a range of management tools; operate under often complex governance structures; and contend with diverse human stakeholders’ expectations, desires, and actual behaviour in response to management activities. This complexity also means that there are many knowledge and research gaps regarding the information needed to meet the requirements of specific fisheries. LÄS MER
4. Evaluation of local feed resources for hybrid catfish (Clarias macrocephalus x C. gariepinus) in smallholder fish farming systems in central Vietnam
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the current feeding situation for fresh water fish in Central Vietnam, to evaluate the potential nutritive value of locally available feed resources for hybrid catfish (Clarias macrocephalus x C. gariepinus) and Nile tilapia, to determine the dietary requirement of lysine for hybrid catfish, to estimate the requirements for the other essential amino acids (EAA) by using ideal protein concept, and finally to evaluate the suitability of cassava leaf meal and shrimp head meal as a partial replacement for fish meal in the diet, without or with lysine supplementation, for hybrid catfish fingerlings. 5. Endocrine disrupting compounds in effluent waters : Chemical analysis to evaluate exposure of fish
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if endocrine disruption related to the release of estrogenic and/or androgenic substances via sewage treatment plant and pulp mill effluents is significant in Swedish waters. Chemical analysis of bile fluid in combination with measurement of biomarkers was used for the evaluation of internal exposure and effects in fish. LÄS MER
