  1. 1. Natural resources and sustainable energy : Growth rates and resource flows for low-carbon systems

    Författare :Simon Davidsson; Mikael Höök; Gert Jan Kramer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low-carbon technology; renewable energy; energy transitions; critical materials; energy metals; material flows; net energy; EROI; life cycle assessment; LCA; growth curves; curve fitting; resource depletion; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Large-scale deployment of low-carbon energy technologies is important for counteracting anthropogenic climate change and achieving universal energy access. This thesis explores potential growth rates of technologies necessary to reach a more sustainable global energy system, the material and energy flows required to commission these technologies, and potential future availability of the required resources. 2. 2. World oil supply and unconventional resources : Bottom-up perspectives on tight oil production

    Författare :Henrik Wachtmeister; Mikael Höök; Roger Bentley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oil supply; oil production; unconventional resources; tight oil; shale oil; bottom-up model; projections; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Oil is the world’s largest primary energy source. It dominates the transportation sector which underpins the world economy. Yet, oil is a nonrenewable resource, destined not to last forever. In the mid-2000s global conventional oil production stagnated, leading to rising oil prices and fears of permanent oil scarcity. 3. 3. World oil supply in the 21st century : A bottom-up perspective

    Författare :Henrik Wachtmeister; Mikael Höök; Jamie Speirs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oil supply; oil production; oil prices; bottom-up; projections; conventional oil; tight oil; shale oil; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Oil-fuelled progress was a defining feature of the 20th century, and still today, oil remains the world’s largest primary energy source. Yet, oil is a non-renewable and carbon-intensive resource, either depletion or resulting carbon emissions will ultimately limit its use. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dispersal and environmental impact of contaminants in organic rich, fibrous sediments of industrial origin in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Anna Apler; Ian Snowball; Karin Wiberg; Kevin Bishop; Sarah Josefsson; Lovisa Zillén; Ida-Maja Hassellöv; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiberbank; fiber-rich sediments; metals; persistent organic pollutants; pore water; bottom water; dispersal; sorption; pulp and paper; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : The health of the Baltic Sea is negatively affected by hazardous substances such as metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which include legacy pollutants that were banned decades ago, but still circulate in the ecosystem. Elevated levels of legacy pollutants, identified by HELCOM as key hazardous substances, have been found in accumulations of fibrous sediments, so-called fiberbanks and fiber-rich sediments, which derive from old pulp mills along the Swedish north coast. 5. 5. Contaminated organic sediments of anthropogenic origin: impact on coastal environments

    Författare :Anna Apler; Ian Snowball; Sarah Josefsson; Lovisa Zillén; Magdalena Kuchler; Jonas Gunnarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiberbank; fiber-rich sediment; metals; persistent organic pollutants; pore water; bottom water; dispersal; sorption; pulp and paper; chemostratigraphy; Anthropocene; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is negatively affected by legacy pollutants such as metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that are known to have adverse effects on living organisms, including, humans and were banned decades ago. This thesis addresses the dispersal of these pollutants from heavily contaminated, cellulose-rich sediments of industrial origin in the Ångermanälven river estuary in northern Sweden. LÄS MER
