6. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge. 7. Alveolar macrophages and lung surfactant in the defense against Cryptococcus neoformans
Sammanfattning : Cryptococcus neoformans causes disease mainly in immunosuppressed patients, especially those with AIDS, and on corticosteroids. The yeast is normally inhaled and the lung is the primary site of infection, where the alveolar macrophages (AM) provide a first line of host defense. LÄS MER
8. Synthesis of organobromines as a tool for their characterisation and environmental occurrence assessment
Sammanfattning : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have been intensively used as flame retardants (FRs) and have become ubiquitous environmental pollutants. PBDEs form hydroxylated PBDEs (OH-PBDEs) as metabolites. Further, some OH-PBDEs and methoxy-PBDEs (MeO-PBDEs) are natural products. LÄS MER
9. What contributes to human body burdens of halogenated flame retardants? : An experimental approach
Sammanfattning : Flame retardants (FRs) are chemicals added to a broad range of consumer products such as textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, furniture and building material to meet flammability requirements. Most of these chemicals are additives that can continuously leach out from the applied products during usage. LÄS MER
10. Fat contamination of pericardial suction blood in cardiac surgery : clinical and experimental studies in perspectives of transfusion logistics
Sammanfattning : Introduction: During cardiac surgery aided by cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) the autotransfusion of pericardial suction blood (PSB) is regarded mandatory to limit allogeneic blood exposure. PSB is however proposed as a source of lipid microemboli and to contribute to brain damage. LÄS MER
