  1. 11. Whole Genome Sequencing of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli

    Författare :Astrid von Mentzer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ETEC; whole genome sequencing; evolution; colonization factor; reverse genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) infections are a common cause of diarrhea but little is known about the evolution and genomic composition of ETEC. The main aim of this thesis was to generate a large collection of whole genome sequenced ETEC isolates to study the evolution of such bacteria on a global level and to search for novel colonization factors (CFs) using both classical and cutting-edge genomic techniques. 2. 12. Functional characterization of a phage integrase and its possible use in gene therapy

    Författare :Clara Frumerie; Elisabeth Haggård-Ljungquist; Lars Sundström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteriophage P2 infecting Escherichia coli can integrate into the bacterial chromosome by site-specific recombination, which is catalyzed by the P2 Int recombinase. The recombination event takes place between the phage attachment site, attP, and the bacterial attachment site, attB. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The efficacy of bacterial viruses against multi-resistant Escherichia coli: from isolation to pharmacology

    Författare :Mohammadali Khan Mirzaei; Anders Nilsson; Rob Lavigne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phage therapy; Multiresistant E. coli; Pharmacodynamics; Pharmacokinetics; Bacterial viruses; Genomic; proteomic; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The increase of multi-resistant bacteria highlights that the golden era of antibiotics is ending and that alternative treatmentsare urgently needed. Phages have been historically used to treat bacterial infections prior to the discovery of antibiotics and have gained renewed interest in the past decade. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Evolutionary patterns and processes of bacteriophages, particularly P2-like phages

    Författare :Anders Nilsson; Siv Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; genetik;

    Sammanfattning : DNA sequencing of structural genes of temperate P2-like prophages from isolates of Escherichia coli bacteria showed that the difference between these genes was very small. Separate phylogenetic analyses on the genes resulted in unresolved trees, caused by a high level of homologous recombination, which implied that homologous recombination is the most important source of new genetic variation for P2-like phages infecting E. 5. 15. Heterologous expression, characterization and applications of carbohydrate active enzymes and binding modules

    Författare :Åsa Kallas; Tuula T. Teeri; Edward A. Bayer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Populus; xyloglucan endotransglycosylase; carbohydrate binding modules; endo- 1; 4 -b-xylanase; Escherichia coli; Pichia pastoris; N-glycosylation; fiber analysis; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; Wood fibre and forest products; Träfiber- och virkeslära;

    Sammanfattning : Wood and wood products are of great economical and environmental importance, both in Sweden and globally. Biotechnology can be used both for achieving raw material of improved quality and for industrial processes such as biobleaching. LÄS MER
