2. In the hands of ohm : hemodynamic aspects in pulmonary hypertension
Sammanfattning : Congestive heart failure (CHF) is one of the most challenging diseases in terms of health care demand and mortality, in the western world. Despite major breakthroughs in the fields of diagnosis and treatment over the three last decades, the management of CHF still remains challenging. LÄS MER
3. Left atrial function in health and disease
Sammanfattning : The Objectives of this thesis are:1) To study possible atrial interaction in patients with right and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction due to significant pulmonary (PS) and aortic valve stenosis (AS), respectively.2) To assess left atrial (LA) intrinsic myocardial function and its relationship to indirect measures of left ventricular (LV) filling pressures in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). 4. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation
Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 5. Cardiac Performance, Ventricular-Vascular Interaction and Functional Alterations in Rheumatic Mitral Stenosis : A descriptive study employing novel hemodynamic and echocardiographic modalities
Sammanfattning : The assessment of LV performance poses significant challenges in the setting of rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) owing to an inherently load-altered state. A detailed characterization of arterial-ventricular coupling between subjects with isolated post-capillary pulmonary hypertension (Ipc-PH) and combined pre- and post-capillary pulmonary hypertension (Cpc-PH) has not been described.
