1. Heterologous expression and characterization of xyloglucan endotransglycosylases from Populus tremula x tremuloides
Sammanfattning : Xyloglucan endotransglycosylases (XETs) are enzymes involvedin the reorganization of the primary cell wall. This thesisdescribes several aspects of XET16A from hybrid aspen (Populustremula x tremuloides). The gene was isolated from the hybridaspen cDNA library and the protein was expressed heterologouslyin the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris. LÄS MER
2. Heterologous expression, characterization and applications of carbohydrate active enzymes and binding modules
Sammanfattning : Wood and wood products are of great economical and environmental importance, both in Sweden and globally. Biotechnology can be used both for achieving raw material of improved quality and for industrial processes such as biobleaching. LÄS MER
3. Effects of dopamine and excitotoxicity in experimental models of Huntington's disease
Sammanfattning : Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of a CAG repeat in the HD gene, that leads to dysfunction and death of striatal neurons. The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying HD are not known, but excitotoxicity and dopamine (DA) have been suggested to play a role. LÄS MER
4. TAKING CARE OF OTHERS - WHAT'S IN IT FOR US? Exploring workplace-related health from a salutogenic perspective in a nursing context
Sammanfattning : The aim was to explore and make sense of a salutogenic relationship between workplace, work and health, through an employee perspective in a Swedish nursing context. The aim was also to make sense of the role of a workplace health promotion (WHP) process, in a salutogenic public health perspective, and develop useful instruments for this kind of health-related development work. 5. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth
Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER
