  1. 1. Aquaporins in Infection and Inflammation

    Författare :Angelika Holm; Elena Vikström; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Vesa Loitto; Jonas Wetterö; Mikael Rhen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of eukaryotic cells to change their shape and to migrate directionally is highly dependent on active volume regulation in cells building up tissues as well as in individual cells. Transmembrane fluxes of water via specialized water channels, called aquaporins (AQPs), facilitate the changes of volume and shape, which additionally require a complex interplay between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton. 2. 2. Plantaricins as a novel group of antibacterial compounds and enhancers of antibiotics

    Författare :Amani Musa; Hazem Khalaf; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Elena Vikström; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacteriocin; antimicrobial peptide; plantaricin; antibiotic resistance; PLNC8 αβ; ESKAPE pathogens;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotics have revolutionized medicine, however, the rapid development of an-tibiotic resistance among bacteria is diminishing their efficacy. Antimicrobial pep-tides produced by Lactobacillus plantarum, i.e., plantaricins, are considered prom-ising alternatives to antibiotics against infections. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Host-pathogen interactions during Campylobacter and Yersinia infections

    Författare :Nayyer Taheri; Anna Fahlgren; Maria Fällman; Sun Nyunt Wai; Elena Vikström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Campylobacter jejuni; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; OMV; bile; temperature; proteomic;

    Sammanfattning : The innate immune system is known for protecting the host against invading pathogens, for instance enteropathogens infecting the gastrointestinal tract. The production of e.g. antimicrobial peptides, cytokines, and chemokines by innate immune cells and intestinal epithelial cells contribute to bacterial clearance. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bacteria-host cell interactions : Studies on initial colonization, antimicrobial peptides, and biofilms

    Författare :Gabriela Wassing; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Elena Vikström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria meningitidis; Lactobacillus; host responses; EGR1; antimicrobial peptides; hBD2; A20; biofilm; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : The obligate human pathogen Neisseria meningitidis asymptomatically colonizes the upper respiratory tract, but crossing of the epithelial barrier can cause life-threatening meningitis and/or sepsis. N. LÄS MER
