  1. 6. New Approaches for Levodopa Treatment in Parkinson’s Disease

    Författare :Marina Senek; Dag Nyholm; Elisabet I Nielsen; Maral Mouradian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; Population modeling; Levodopa; Carbidopa; Entacapone; Microtablets; Intestinal infusion;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by degeneration of dopaminergic cells, which results in dopamine depletion. Levodopa is the most effective symptomatic treatment, however, disease progression along with the unfavorable pharmacokinetics of levodopa makes the disease increasingly difficult to treat with time. 2. 7. Genetics of Two Mendelian Traits and Validation of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) Technology for Disease Modeling

    Författare :Doroteya Raykova; Niklas Dahl; Ann Nordgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Disease modeling; Mendelian disorders; iPSC; Whole exome sequencing; Transcriptome sequencing; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Novel technologies for genome analysis have provided almost unlimited opportunities to uncover structural gene variants behind human disorders. Whole exome sequencing (WES) is especially useful for understanding rare Mendelian conditions, because it reduces the requirements for a priori clinical data, and can be applied on a small number of patients. 3. 8. Benefits of Pharmacometric Model-Based Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials

    Författare :Kristin E Karlsson; E Niclas Jonsson; Mats O Karlsson; Anders Grahnén; Michael K Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; model-based analysis; pharmacometrics; modeling; disease progression; NONMEM; SAEM; Importance sampling; repeated time-to-event; RTTCE; RCEpT; NIH stroke scale; Barthel index; internal validation; external validation; study power; study design; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Quantitative pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic and disease progression models are the core of the science of pharmacometrics which has been identified as one of the strategies that can make drug development more effective. To adequately develop and utilize these models one needs to carefully consider the nature of the data, choice of appropriate estimation methods, model evaluation strategies, and, most importantly, the intended use of the model. 4. 9. Modeling of biomembranes: from computational toxicology to simulations of neurodegenerative diseases

    Författare :Inna Ermilova; Alexander Lyubartsev; Marta Pasenkiewicz-Gierula; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomembranes; lipid bilayers; Alzheimer s disease; Parkinson disease; computational toxicology; passive diffusion; hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers; omega-3; omega-6; amyloid beta peptide; molecular dynamics simulations; SLipids force field; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : It was known from the middle of the last century that a cell-membrane is a lipid bilayer. Since that time a large number of experimental studies has been done in order to see how a certain molecule can penetrate through a membrane. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Study the role of patient-specific mutations by genetic disease modeling : From gene to function; A study to understand muscles

    Författare :Martin Dahl-Halvarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Muscles; Myosin; MYH7; Myosin storage myopathy; Laing early-onset myopathy; Drosophila; TOR1A; DYT1; HCM; heart disease;

    Sammanfattning : Many genetic diseases inherited in a dominant fashion have a complex pathological pattern. TOR1A mediated Dystonia-1 (DYT1) is an example of incomplete penetrance, affecting only a third of the carriers. LÄS MER
