  1. 1. Migration of molecules in the brain : focus on the extracellular space and the cerebrospinal fluid

    Författare :Malin Höistad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Volume transmission; rat; diffusion; striatum; dual-probe microdialysis; delivery; recovery; clearance; uptake; dopamine; metabolism; radiotracer; mannitol; cisterna magna; opioids; peptides; betaendorphin; mu-opioid receptors; mismatch; TH; DBH; immunohistochemistry; fear.;

    Sammanfattning : Three different molecules and three different experimental models were used to study the migration of molecules in the rat brain: a neurotransmitter- dopamine, an extracellular market- mannitol, and a neuropeptide beta-endorphin. Two models in vivo were used to study the diffusion and migration of molecules: dual-probe rnicrodialysis in the striatum, and direct intrastriatal microinjections followed by cerebrospinal fluid sampling from the cisterna magna. 2. 2. Development of central catecholaminergic neuronal systems in the lizard Anolis sagrei

    Författare :Agneta Rehn; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; double labelling; immunohistochemistry; interplexiform cells; amacrine cells; catecholamines; development; retina; Reptiles; brain; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Sammanfattning : Catecholamines, comprising the neurotransmitters dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (A) are synthesized by specific enzymes (tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine ß-hydroxylase (DBH), phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase (PNMT)) in the central nervous system. The development and distribution of different catecholaminergic systems have been described in both the brain and retina of the lizard Anolis sagrei. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Quantitative genetics of lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) wood quality traits in Sweden

    Författare :Haleh Hayatgheibi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Stem bending, breakage, and general instability of lodgepole pine has been a major problem in northern Sweden due to low stem stiffness. The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the potential incorporation of wood quality traits into lodgepole pine advanced breeding programs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetics, breeding and deployment of Melaleuca and Norway spruce

    Författare :Hong Nguyen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Additive effects of genes are cumulative over generations and are the main source of genetic variation exploited by most plant breeding programs. However, the relative importance of additive and non-additive genetic effects is critical information required to properly evaluate the potential for genetic gain from various breeding programs and deployment options used in the genetic improvement of forest trees. 5. 5. Effects of silvicultural treatments in young Scots pine-dominated stands on the potential for early biofuel harvests

    Författare :Kristina Ulvcrona; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of the work underlying this thesis was to increase knowledge regarding growth of young Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) - dominated mixed forests in northern Sweden and the potential for combining early biofuel harvest in such stands while leaving crop trees for future harvests. For this purpose, several studies were made. LÄS MER
