11. Experimental test setups and simulations in skiing mechanics
Sammanfattning : Product testing and development are essential parts in sports and for the athletes in their quest to reach the podium. Manufacturers of sports equipment often use basic test methods which do not test the equipment in a sports specific way. LÄS MER
12. Epidemiology of Physical Activity and Fragility Fractures
Sammanfattning : Fragility fractures mainly affect elderly individuals and often cause long term pain, loss of function and higher mortality rates. Physical activity improves balance, increases muscle strength and bone mineral density, and may reduce the risk of fragility fractures. LÄS MER
13. The importance of body-mass exponent optimization for evaluation of performance capability in cross-country skiing
Sammanfattning : Introduction Performance in cross-country skiing is influenced by the skier’s ability to continuously produce propelling forces and force magnitude in relation to the net external forces. A surrogate indicator of the “power supply” in cross-country skiing would be a physiological variable that reflects an important performance-related capability, whereas the body mass itself is an indicator of the “power demand” experienced by the skier. 14. Objective Analysis Methods in the Mechanics of Sports
Sammanfattning : Sports engineering can be considered as the bridge between the knowledge of sports science and the principles of engineering and has an important role not only in improving the athletic performance, but also in increasing the safety of the athletes. Testing and optimization of sports equipment and athletic performance are essential for supporting athletes in their quest to reach the podium. LÄS MER
15. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. LÄS MER
