  1. 36. Studies of specific immunity against viral infections in patients after stem cell transplantation

    Författare :Gayane Avetisyan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Stem cell transplantation; cytomegalovirus; influenza; cellular and humoral immunity; immunological monitoring; anti-viral treatment; vaccination;

    Sammanfattning : Recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) experience a prolonged period of immune deficiency, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality from the infections. Viruses such as cytomegalovirus (CMV) and influenza virus are frequent causes of infectious complications following allo-HSCT. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Antigens and antibodies involved in humoral immunity to plasmodium falciparum

    Författare :Mats Wahlgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria plasmodiidae cause more death and disease than any other known human pathogen. The parasite still threatens half of the world population {2.5 billion) and 300 million people are considered to become infected every year. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Interaction Between Drosophila melanogaster mbn-2 Cells and Bacteria

    Författare :Karin Johansson; Kenneth Söderhäll; Lage Cerenius; Martin Bilej; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Drosophila; innate immunity; bacteria; host - pathogen interaction; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Innate immunity relies on a repertoire of germline-encoded non-rearranging pattern recognition receptors that bind to invariant microbial surface molecules. This event initiates a number of signal transduction cascades that lead to humoral and cellular defense responses like synthesis of antimicrobial peptides, phagocytosis and coagulation – mechanisms that efficiently fight infectious microorganisms and have been evolutionary conserved to exist in parallel with the antibody-based adaptive immunity found in vertebrates. 4. 39. On the role of innate cell interactions in inflammation and leukemia

    Författare :Rebecca E Riise; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Innate immunity; neutrophils; NK cells; caspase-1; apoptosis; myeloid leukemia; ROS; immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory cells of the innate immune system launch rapid and powerful effector responses in the combat against infectious pathogens. However, these inflammatory mediators may cause excessive damage to the host and, therefore, require rigid control systems to maintain the delicate balance between prompt clearance of infections and the risk of developing immunopathology. 5. 40. Liposomes for mucosal vaccine delivery: physicochemical characterization and biological application

    Författare :Karin Norling; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nanoparticles; vaccine carriers; antigen presentation; dendritic cells; surface plasmon resonance; flow cytometry; liposomes; cellular uptake; fluorescence microscopy; influenza;

    Sammanfattning : Liposomes are attractive vaccine carriers due to their potential to act as adjuvants, and to the fact that their composition and characteristics are virtually endlessly customizable. However, the precise physicochemical profile of an ideal carrier liposome for mucosal vaccines is still widely unknown, and how different properties affect key steps in the acquisition of protective immunity remains to be elucidated.
