1. Liposomes for mucosal vaccine delivery: physicochemical characterization and biological application
Sammanfattning : Liposomes are attractive vaccine carriers due to their potential to act as adjuvants, and to the fact that their composition and characteristics are virtually endlessly customizable. However, the precise physicochemical profile of an ideal carrier liposome for mucosal vaccines is still widely unknown, and how different properties affect key steps in the acquisition of protective immunity remains to be elucidated. 2. Studying the influence of the physicochemical properties of lipid nanoparticles for mucosal vaccine delivery
Sammanfattning : Lipid-based nanoparticles have attracted attention as promising pharmaceutical carriers. Reports of them having inherent adjuvant properties make them particularly interesting as vaccine vectors; however, the physicochemical profile of an ideal nanoparticle for mucosal vaccine delivery remains unknown. 3. Immunogenicity and protective potential of Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae against H. influenzae infection
Sammanfattning : Both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi) are important human pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections. Currently there are number of vaccines available against Hib infections. LÄS MER
4. Mass spectrometry-based proteomic strategies applied to Helicobacter pylori. A Search for candidate vaccine antigens
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development and refinement of proteomic strategies and the application of these on the human gastric pathogen H. pylori. The purpose was to identify proteins, and in particular membrane proteins, as potential targets for vaccine development. LÄS MER
5. Vaccination against drug-resistant HIV
Sammanfattning : As the use of antiretroviral drug treatment increases worldwide, development of drug resistant HIV phenotypes is expected to increase. The frequency of drug- or multi-drug resistant virus transmitted in primary infections will consequently be more abundant. Logical vaccine targets in drug-resistant strains are reverse transcriptase and protease. LÄS MER
