  1. 1. Herpesvirus Infection and Immunity in Neurocognitive Disorders

    Författare :Gabriel Westman; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Martin Ingelsson; Olle Korsgren; Jan Ernerudh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Herpes simplex encephalitis; Herpesvirus; Cytomegalovirus; CMV; HSV-1; HHV-6; CD8 T-cells; Cellular immunity; Immunosenescence; Autoimmunity; NMDA receptor; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Herpesviruses have co-speciated with several vertebrate and invertebrate animals throughout the history of evolution. In the immunocompetent human host, primary infection is usually benign, whereafter the virus is brought into life-long latency. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immune tolerance by interferon-alpha in experimental arthritis

    Författare :Jaya Prakash Chalise; Mattias Magnusson; Thomas Skogh; Richard O Williams; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Type I Interferons (mainly IFN-α & IFN-β) belong to a family of cytokines that possess strong antiviral and immunomodulatory properties. Pro- and/or anti-inflammatory effects of type I IFN have been observed in infectious diseases and several autoimmune diseases including SLE, MS, RA and experimental models thereof, but what defines either outcome is largely obscure. 3. 3. In vitro studies of natural and tumor-associated immunity in patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder

    Författare :Marita Troye-Blomberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder (TCC-bladder) were studied using a SlCr-release assay for their in vitro cytotoxicity against a panel of allogeneic tissue culture cell lines of TCC-bladder and other origins. Control PBL were obtained from four different groups of donors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Anomalies in humoral immunity in the NOD mouse : contribution to the progression of type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Radha Thyagarajan; Kristina Lejon; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Susanna Cardell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 Diabetes; NOD mouse; B cells; IgE; TACI; BAFF; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is widely used model Type 1 diabetes (T1D), a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by destruction of the insulin producing β cells in the islets of Langerhans by immune cells. The classical symptoms include increased glucose levels in urine and blood, frequent urination and enhanced thirst. LÄS MER

  5. 5. HIV and SIV specific cellular immunity in macaque models

    Författare :Barbro Mäkitalo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular immunity is believed to be an important prerequisite for an effective HIV vaccine. Accruing data from individuals able to contain HIV-1 replication during natural infection underscores the contribution of CD8+ T cells in viral control. LÄS MER
