  1. 1. Decarbonising plastics – On the technologies and framings of carbon capture and utilisation

    Författare :Ellen Palm; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Plastics; Carbon capture and utilisation; Carbon circularity; Industrial decarbonisation; Climate mitigation; Interdisciplinarity;

    Sammanfattning : Plastics consist of fossil fuels, from both a feedstock and energy perspective and thus need to decarbonise. This thesis maps and explores the framings and technologies that surround plastics decarbonisation and the potential mitigation pathway of carbon capture and utilisation. Here, three of the main findings are presented. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Excess heat utilisation in oil refineries - CCS and algae-based biofuels

    Författare :Viktor Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; techno-economic; CO2 emissions; carbon dioxide; renewable diesel; post-combustion; algae biofuels; process integration; GHG emissions; oil refining industry; carbon capture and storage CCS ;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis is to investigate two different concepts for CO2 mitigation, from a system perspective, in relation to the oil refining industry: CO2 capture and storage; and algae-based biofuels. For all these processes, process integration with an oil refinery is assumed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Role of Envisioned Futures in Sustainability Transitions

    Författare :Alexandra Nikoleris; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; förväntningar; socio-teknisk förändring; framtidsbilder; envisioned futures; sustainability transitions; expectations; structure and agency;

    Sammanfattning : Different kinds of representations of the future are often asked for in order to motivate and inspire societal change. These envisioned futures can be based on political or behavioural change, or may visualize technical developmentwhich could help us solve complex societal problems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Future District Heating Interactions – Modelling Impacts of Industrial Excess Heat Utilisation and Energy Efficient Buildings

    Författare :Akram Sandvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fourth generation district heating; TIMES; waste heat; urban planning.; dynamic energy system modelling; MARKAL; passive houses; low-energy buildings; excess heat;

    Sammanfattning : International goals for climate change mitigation plus energy security targets could be met cost-effectively by interactions between different parts of energy systems. The fourth generation of the district heating systems concept was developed as an attempt to accelerate district heating (DH) systems’ interactions with other energy systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cost-efficient integration of variable renewable electricity - Variation management and strategic localisation of new demand

    Författare :Viktor Walter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flexibility measures; Energy system modelling; smart energy systems; variation management strategies; variable renewable electricity;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to improve our understanding of how wind power and solar photovoltaics (PV) can be integrated into the European electricity system in a cost-efficient manner. For this, a techno-economic, cost-minimising model of the electricity system is refined for a number of case studies. LÄS MER
