16. Mutual neutralisation reactions in atmospheric and industrial plasmas
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with experimental studies of electron transfer reactions between oppositely charged ions (mutual neutralisation). These were performed at the unique double electrostatic ion storage ring DESIREE at Stockholm University, which was put into full operation in 2017. LÄS MER
17. Bright Needles in a Haystack : A Search for Magnetic Monopoles Using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory
Sammanfattning : The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the geographic South Pole is designed to detect the light produced by the daughter-particles of in-ice neutrino-nucleon interactions, using one cubic kilometer of ice instrumented with more than 5000 optical sensors.Magnetic monopoles are hypothetical particles with non-zero magnetic charge, predicted to exist in many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics. 18. Low-Energy Ion Escape from the Terrestrial Polar Regions
Sammanfattning : The contemporary terrestrial atmosphere loses matter at a rate of around 100,000 tons per year. A major fraction of the net mass loss is constituted by ions, mainly H+ and O+, which escape from the Earth’s ionosphere in the polar regions. LÄS MER
19. Exploring the Universe Using Neutrinos : A Search for Point Sources in the Southern Hemisphere Using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory
Sammanfattning : Neutrinos are the ideal cosmic messengers, and can be used to explore the most powerful accelerators in the Universe, in particular the mechanisms for producing and accelerating cosmic rays to incredible energies. By studying clustering of neutrino candidate events in the IceCube detector we can discover sites of hadronic acceleration. LÄS MER
20. Development of laser spectroscopy for scattering media applications
Sammanfattning : Laser spectroscopy for both large and small spatial scales has been developed and used in various applications ranging from remote monitoring of atmospheric mercury in Spain to investigation of oxygen contents in wood, human sinuses, fruit, and pharmaceutical solids. Historically, the lidar group in Lund has performed many differential absorption lidar (DIAL) measurements with a mobile lidar system that was first described in 1987. LÄS MER
